Find your personal fitness at new Edwardsville gym

Located between Joe’s Pizza and 4 Hermanos Mexican Restaurant on Route 157 sits Edwardsville’s newest personal fitness gym, I-Koach Fitness, LLC, which held its grand opening event on Saturday.

The gym is a small-group and personal fitness space for people who are looking for an individualized approach to workout needs and goals.

“The Edwardsville community is so supportive. It is because of them we are able to open up here,” said owner Ioannis Katrantzis.

Katrantzis has been in the fitness industry since moving to Edwardsville from Greece to study at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and received a master’s degree in exercise science and sports psychology through SIUE.

“I started as a personal trainer while finishing my bachelor’s degree and after that I supervised personal training on campus at SIUE,” said Katrantzis.

He also became a travel trainer by going to homes, apartment complexes and providing personal training in his garage.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, his business has started to pick up even more.

“Group training took a hit because of the pandemic, so people interested in maintaining a healthy lifestyle turned to small group or individual training,” he said.

“I’ve seen how hard he has worked at this. I’m so proud of him,” said Katrantzis’ wife, Konstantina Stavroulaki. “He started with just one client and now has grown that number to over 100 clients.”

Due to this growth, opening a gym seemed feasible, even necessary.

“We outgrew the space in my garage and opening this gym will allow us to welcome even more clients,” said Katrantzis.

Many of his long term clients came to show their support during the grand opening. Rebecca Wayne of Edwardsville has been training with Katrantzis since 2015.

“What makes him unique is he listens to what I say and incorporates it into my fitness plan. That’s rare in a trainer,” said Wayne, “I know this has been his dream since I first started training with him. It’s so great to see the dream become a reality.”

“Ioannis makes you comfortable at whatever level you are at and you want to keep coming back to work with him,” added Alison Romanik of Collinsville, who recently started with Katrantzis in July, “I’ve been so happy and have felt great ever since starting to exercise with him.”

The gym, which is open six days a week, provides strength, functional and cardiovascular training, as well as nutrition and mindset advice to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“A lot of people did a 180-degree turn during the pandemic and started to think about ways to become healthier,” said Katrantzis. “We are here to help people maintain that energy. Having someone to watch you and give you advice while exercising is our main focus at I-Koach.”

I-Koach is located at 4 Club Centre Ct. Suite C in Edwardsville. It is open Monday-Thursday 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information visit or call Ioannis Katrantzis at 314-783-6321
